Monad Co-Founder Exposes Telegram Ad Scam Targeting Community Ahead of Token Distribution

-

Monad co-founder Keone Hon has issued an urgent security alert to the project’s community after identifying fraudulent advertisements infiltrating its official Telegram announcements channel. The deceptive ads, which appeared as sponsored messages within the platform, directed users to counterfeit websites impersonating legitimate Monad platforms.

In a public statement, Hon emphasized that these malicious links emerged just as the project prepares for its upcoming token distribution event, highlighting coordinated attempts to exploit community anticipation. The fake advertisements employed sophisticated phishing tactics designed to harvest sensitive user data, including cryptocurrency wallet credentials and personal information.

“Our team is actively working with Telegram to remove these fraudulent advertisements and strengthen channel security measures,” Hon stated. “We remind all community members that official announcements will only come through verified channels, and we never request private keys or personal information through promotional links.”

The security incident underscores growing concerns about social engineering attacks within cryptocurrency communities, particularly during high-profile project milestones. Industry experts recommend that users always verify website URLs manually, enable two-factor authentication, and cross-reference announcements across multiple official platforms before engaging with any promotional content.

Monad’s security team continues to monitor the situation and has implemented additional verification protocols to prevent similar incidents as the project advances toward its token distribution phase.
